Today, dance has taken to another new level. With dance, instructors, and dance classes being readily available, dance has become the latest trend and culture. I know as a Christian, you must have been asking yourself a lot of questions. Is dance biblical? Is it holy?
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8, ASV)
Are you confused about whether to join dance classes or not? Well, not anymore! Let’s dissect Christian dance and kick a few basics out of the way.
Should You Join Dance Classes?
There has been a lot of debates about dancing in church and what kind of dance should be allowed on the alter and Christian concerts and events. So, the big question remains, should you enroll in a dance class or not?
Here are some of the top reasons you should join dance classes.
1. Dance Will Always Keep You Fit, Healthy, and Happy
For us to stay healthy, we need to do regular exercise. Experts say that at least 30 minutes daily of workout will work the magic. A dance class will give you more than 30 minutes of exercise.
Health practitioners and experts consider dance as a form of exercise. Why? Dance will engage almost every all your body muscles while having fun and praising God at the same time. From cardio exercises to leg and arm training, what dance offers merely is unmatched.
Do Christians experience stress and depression? I will be lying if I said no. We are human, and we all face challenges and depressing moments. However, the benefit that we have is that Christ helps us overcome all obstacles.
A dancing life is a healthy and happy life…dance will take away all your stress! How? Dancing engages your body, emotions, spirit, and mind. It will definitely clear your mind and give you a new happy feel to ensure that you are living the best and the most joyful life that God intends for everyone.
2. Different Events Will Require You to Dance
If you have been to various social Christian gatherings, you must have seen how dance has become – it’s a movement, a culture! From weddings and crusades to conferences, concerts, and events, dancing is always part and parcel.
The best way to ensure that you enjoy every bit of a Christian event is by knowing how to dance. Don’t get bored every time music is played…join the fun; enjoy rhythms, sounds, and music much more through dance.
3. Dance Is a Form of Worship
Dancing is not something new. No, our forefathers in Christ did it. In the old testament, the Children of Israel sang praises to God and danced for joy.
“And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.” (Exodus 15:20, ASV)
David himself was a dancer – he danced his clothes off! Dancing to the Lord is so beautiful; it brings the church and us together.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalms 133:1, ASV)
Finally, dance is biblical. God requires us all to sing, worship, praise, and dance to him.
“Praise him with timbrel and dance: Praise him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise him with loud cymbals: praise him with high sounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise Jehovah. Praise ye Jehovah.” Psalms 150:4-6, ASV)
“Praise ye Jehovah. Sing unto Jehovah a new song, And his praise in the assembly of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: Let the children of Zion be joyful in their king. Let the praise his name in the dance: Let them sing praises unto him with timbrel and harp.” (Psalms 149:1-3, ASV)
A dance for the lord is not about the technique. No, it is also about your attitude, your heart (pure), and telling a story. Don’t be afraid to join dance classes – our father loves when we worship and praise Him out of a clean and pure heart.
